Police are this afternoon (July 12) holding two people in custody, in connection with last night's football-related violence in Brighton.
They were detained during sporadic disorder that began as England's Euro 2020 final against Italy drew to a close.
Gareth Southgate's side had held their rivals to a 1–1 scoreline through to the end of extra time.
But a penalty shootout saw Italy take the trophy after three successful shots from the spot, against England's two.
Reports from Sunday night said fighting broke out in West Street and Duke Street, with disorder also reported at a takeaway outlet in Norfolk Square.
Additionally, officers said they were alerted to an incident Western Road, Brighton, shortly after 11pm.
A 26-year-old man from Hove was arrested on suspicion of committing grievous bodily harm.
Also, a 19-year-old man from Hove was arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of cannabis.
According to police, both suspects remained in custody by early on Monday afternoon.
A man sustained facial injuries but declined medical treatment.
A spokesperson added that officers responded to some other reports of disorder across the county throughout the evening.
Witness reports said a fight had broken out in Bolney, and a man in Pease Pottage was detained after reports of a pub's windows being broken.
There was also an alleged assault at Burgess Hill railway station.
