Hundreds of Hastings residents will come together next Saturday (25th) to clean up Hastings Beach as part of the 'Big Hastings Beach Clean'.
The event, organised by Hastings Aquarium on Rock-A-Nore Road, will see residents from across East Sussex pick up a litter picker and help combat beach litter and a rise in plastic pollution.
Freddie Mills of Hastings Aquarium said:
"An estimated 8 million tonnes of plastic waste enters our oceans every year - that's equivalent to 800,000 empire state buildings.
"Much of this rubbish ends up on local beaches like our own.
"It's so encouraging to see the Hastings community coming together and getting their hands dirty in cleaning things up together.
"This important work will do much to protect local wildlife and help maintain our beautiful coastline".
The event will take place on Saturday 25th September beginning at 11am.
People are being asked to meet at Hastings Aquarium, Rock-A-Nore Road, Hastings. TN34 3DW.
Everyone is welcome.
Litter pickers and refuse bags will be provided.
The Big Hastings Beach Clean is part of a wider national campaign organised by the Marine Conservation Society.
