A total of four men and one woman have been arrested in connection with Class A drugs estimated to be worth £2m, which have been recovered from the English Channel at Seaford.
Several discoveries have been made, police said, after the first packages were found in the waves soon after 9pm on Thursday (July 8).
Officers confirmed on Sunday (July 11) that tests showed they contained Class A controlled drugs — a category that includes heroin and cocaine.
In the course of the intervening days, additional packages have been recovered, taking the total estimated street value to around £2 million.
Three men were arrested in the area on Thursday night on suspicion of improper importation of goods, specifically, Class A drugs.
Additionally, a man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the fraudulent evasion of a prohibition on the importation of a Class A drug.
They were all been released on conditional bail while enquiries continued.
Police remained in the area, to identify any further packages, and appealed to members of the public discovering suspect packages to dial 999.
