A large, illegal fly-tip of suspected asbestos waste that's blocked a country road in Sussex is to be removed by waste contractors on Tuesday (October 13).
Wealden District Council confirmed today that the rubbish on Harts Lane near Colemans Hatch is being treated as the substance whose fibres cause cancer.
Officials said they're investigating reports of a vehicle nearby, seen at the time the waste was dumped on Friday.
They added a specialist contractor would be needed, but expected the road to be re-opened soon after the clear-up work is complete.
The council stated it mostly relies on members of the public to report incidents of illegal fly-tipping, which are welcomed via its website:
