A formerly homeless man is running the Hastings Half Marathon tomorrow (Sunday, March 24) to fundraise for the charity that helped him rebuild his life.
Martin is currently being supported by homelessness charity Emmaus Hastings & Rother, which offers accommodation, support and meaningful work opportunities to help people overcome homelessness.
At Emmaus, Martin has a room for as long as he needs it and is part of the charity’s van crew, collecting furniture and helping with house clearances. Emmaus then upcycles or sells donated items in its two shops in Hastings and Bexhill to fund its accommodation and support services.
To give back to the charity, Martin will be raising money for Emmaus in advance of his run.
Sallie Quinlan, Deputy Community Manager at Emmaus Hastings & Rother said:
“We are very impressed by Martin’s running, and all he has achieved since coming to live at Emmaus Hastings & Rother. We look forward to seeing him run in the 40th Hastings Half-Marathon and wish Martin a great race. Please cheer him on if you spot him.”
