GRIT Students Celebrate Their Success At Bognor Regis Fire Station

Twelve young people have successfully completed the latest GRIT course run by West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service.

The course aims to promote personal resilience, improve wellbeing, strengthen relationships, and build healthy communities.

During the course, the pupils aged 11-13 from The Littlehampton Academy and The Angmering School took part in a diverse programme of firefighter simulated exercises and activities to support their social and emotional development.

A special pass out parade was held to celebrate the students’ achievements on Friday (22 November) at Bogor Regis Fire Station in front of their proud families.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Matt Cook, attended the event and presented the young people with their certificates.

Speaking after the event, he said:

“I was delighted to meet the young people who took part in our latest GRIT course.

“They have really embraced the activities and challenges on offer and it was fantastic to watch them demonstrate their new skills.

“From running hoses to working together as a team, they should be very proud of everything they have achieved. I hope they can take what they have learned from this course and apply it to their own lives.”

Councillor Duncan Crow, Cabinet Member for Community Support, Fire and Rescue, said:

“The success of these courses is fantastic.

"The fire station setting provides a unique environment to learn a wide range of skills which gives young people the confidence and resilience they need to move forward in their lives and fulfil their potential.

"This in turn helps us to build stronger and safer communities across West Sussex.”
