Kite-Flying Event At Devil's Dyke To Support Gaza's Children

Parents for Peace Mid Sussex has organised a Kite Flight for International Women’s Day in solidarity with Gaza tomorrow (Saturday, March 9).

The Burgess Hill-based family-friendly group was created to raise awareness of the suffering of those caught up in the Gaza Israel conflict and to help fundraise for Save the Children’s Gaza Appeal.

The group, who have been holding weekly candlelit vigils in Burgess Hill town centre each Friday, are inviting local communities to bring their own kite to fly or make and decorate one there.

Holly Edwards, Parents for Peace member and event organiser, said:

“We hope International Women’s Day this year will help to shine a light on the thousands of women and children who have been displaced from their homes in Gaza. They're living through a nightmare – one that gets more distressing by the hour.

“Many women are now the sole carers for their families following the death of their partners and they’re unable to access adequate medical supplies and food for their families."

According to UNICEF, 17,000 women and children have been killed in the conflict. Gaza has become one of the most dangerous places for women and children.

Holly, continued:

“Two mothers are killed every hour in Gaza – this must stop now. Our group isn’t about sides – it’s about people, solidarity, learning and liberation. Please join us this International Women’s Day on our Global Kite Flight in solidarity with the women and children of Gaza.

“We’re hoping for a great turnout and we will have materials and tutorials for people to use.”

The event will take place on Saturday, March 9 between 10:30am and 12:00pm at Devil’s Dyke.
