There's been a spectacular explosion on a quiet beach in West Sussex.
Coastguards say bomb disposal experts carried out the deliberate detonation just after mid-day today (November 9) at Medmerry Beach, west of Selsey.
It's after several pieces of wartime ordnance were discovered just south of the wild bird reserve yesterday.
Staff said, after inspecting and photographing the historic devices, a cordon was left around the area until today.
Officials reported, after the Explosive Ordnance Team completed its work, the beach had been reopened.
Coastguards added:
"Ordnance comes in all shapes and sizes and ordnance found on this beach has been found to be highly explosive, so please do not touch it and call the Coastguard straight away.
“The coast and the sea can catch you out whether you’re local or not.
"Our message remains: call 999 Coastguard if you’re in trouble. Please help us and our families stay safe. Be aware of the risks, keep your distance.”
