Police have arrested a man in Bognor Regis this afternoon (Friday April 2), following reports from the public of a person carrying a gun in the town.
Officers were told of a man apparently carrying a firearm in John Street just before 5pm.
The suspect, a 44-year-old local man, was detained by officers after he exited a shop in High Street, Bognor Regis.
He was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence.
Police said he remained in custody on Friday evening.
No injuries were reported and police recovered an imitation handgun.
An appeal for information has begun, with reports welcomed online or by calling 101, quoting serial 1003 of 02/04.
