A man has been arrested and charged after an attempted robbery in Copthorne, near Crawley, on Saturday (13).
Police said they were called to the Kwik Mart convenience store, in Copthorne Bank, shortly after 6pm.
It followed reports that a man had entered the shop and demanded money, but fled the scene empty-handed when the staff member shouted for help.
A man was detained nearby by members of the public, until officers attended and arrested him.
Nayib Pailos, 33, a chef, of Copthorne Common, was later charged with assault with intent to commit robbery and possession of a bladed article in a public place (a pair of scissors).
He appeared before Brighton Magistrates' Court on Monday (15) and was remanded in custody to appear before Lewes Crown Court on July 13.
