A Metropolitan police officer has been charged with raping a woman on Brighton beach.
Sergeant Laurence Knight was arrested on July 28 last year after a woman reported being raped on the beach on July 17.
Sky News reported that the officer was attached to Met Detention (which deals with police custody units) and has been suspended from duty.
Knight, who is currently on trial at Southwark Crown Court, reportedly met the woman in Brighton on his stag night.
A court reporter for The Guardian wrote that the pair walked from a nightclub to the beach together, whereby the suspect complained that he'd had a "rubbish" night and persuaded the victim to go for a swim with him.
The prosecutor described how the victim had removed her dress and entered the water in her underwear, where she was allegedly raped a short time later.
The trial continues.
