Norwegian Air Plans To Cut Jobs At Gatwick Airport

Norwegian Air is considering axing jobs at its base at Gatwick Airport.

It's understood that 259 pilots and cabin crew could lose their jobs as the coronavirus pandemic continues to cripple the airline industry.

The affected casualties would primarily be from Norwegian's short haul crew, which is smaller than its long haul crew.

The company has a 1,142 staff based at Gatwick.

It's understood no flights would be affected by the cuts.

Philip Allport, Norwegian Air Director of Communications and Public Affairs, UK & Ireland, told More Radio:

"The COVID-19 pandemic continues to severely impact our business and this prolonged crisis is far from over.

"These unprecedented circumstances that we now find ourselves in require us to review the London Gatwick crew base in line with current business needs and the associated costs going forward.

"We have entered into consultation with our crew colleagues and unions based in the in UK and will look to find common solutions and mitigate redundancies."
