Peacehaven Pedestrian Dies After Collision With Police Car

A man has died following a collision with a police car on the A259 coast road in Peacehaven just after 11pm on Saturday night (April 30).

 

Emergency services arrived to assist the 27-year-old who sustained serious injuries in the collision and later died at the scene.

Officers say the man had been in the road when they collision happened near the junction of Dorothy Avenue.

As the incident involved a police vehicle, the matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) who will carry out an independent investigation.

The A259 was closed in both directions while an investigation was carried out. It later reopened but the road at the junction with Bramber Avenue remained closed for a time.

Chief Superintendent Jo Banks said:

“This is a tragic incident and we are fully supporting the IOPC investigation. We want to thank drivers and residents for their patience while the A259 South Coast Road was closed.”

In the meantime, police are urging anyone with information or dash cam footage of the incident to email [email protected] quoting Operation Ambleside.
