Two people have died after being hit by trains in West Sussex this afternoon (Tuesday 26), within half an hour of each other.
Emergency services were called to the scene at Balcombe station, between Gatwick Airport and Haywards Heath, at around 1.22pm.
The person died at the scene and officers are working to identify the person and inform their family.
Southern Rail said the incident has blocked all lines between the stations.
Rail replacement buses are being organised, but passengers are advised to travel later if possible.
Trains from Brighton, Littlehampton and Eastbourne to London Victoria are cancelled until further notice.
Disruption is expected until around 5.30pm.
A spokesperson from British Transport Police said:
"Officers were called to Balcombe station at 1.22pm following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended however sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene.
"Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and the file will be prepared for the coroner."
