PHOTOS: Road Closed As Improvements To Brighton City Centre Begin

Part of a major road in Brighton's city centre will be closed for around 18 months while improvements to the area are carried out.

Western Road, specifically the stretch passing Churchill Square Shopping Centre, has now been closed to traffic, with diversions in place for eastbound buses to travel along Montpelier Road and Montpelier Terrace.

Westbound traffic will continue along Western Road for the time being.

The road will undergo resurfacing work with a simpler layout expected and a central strip making it easier for pedestrians to cross.

The council says there will be more parking for cycles, more seating and improved pedestrian crossings.
