Police are investigating a suspected arson attack in Hastings - where a family were believed to be asleep inside the house.
Officers were called to the incident at a flat in Quantock Gardens, at around 5.45am on Sunday (4).
According to Sussex Police, petrol was poured through the letterbox and ignited while the family inside were asleep.
They were woken by the fire alarm and successfully put out the fire which did not cause major damage.
Detective Sergeant Robin Mitchell-Davis said:
"We are treating this as a deliberate though isolated attack, which could have had the most serious consequences, and want to hear from anyone who saw what happened or who has any other information."
