Rail Strike Next week: "Don't Travel Unless Necessary," Says Southern

There's severe disruption expected to rail travel next week as planned strikes by the RMT Union come into effect.

Southern Rail have said that, although they are not on strike, national action will severely affect all journeys on Southern, Gatwick Express, Thameslink and Great Northern between Tuesday, June 21st and Sunday, June 26th.

They added that replacement buses and acceptance of tickets on other rail and bus operators will not be accepted.

On Tuesday 21st, Thursday 23rd and Saturday 25th, many stations and routes will be closed. Trains will only be able to run during limited hours and will finish in the late afternoon.

This means, if you do have to travel, you should carefully check the first and last train for your station. Expect these trains to be very busy.

Transport for London is also expecting a tube strike on Tuesday 21st.

On Wednesday 22nd and Friday 24th, services will also be severely disrupted and will run an amended Sunday service - no trains will start running before 0715. This, they say, will allow them to run a more reliable and consistent service throughout the day.

Details of all services will be updated on Southernrailway.com by this weekend.
