Rampion Wind Farm Visitor Centre Celebrates Fourth Birthday

The Rampion Visitor Centre in Brighton is celebrating four years of being open on Brighton Seafront, offering a free community facility for people in Sussex to find out more about climate change, renewable energy and how the wind farm works.

“Since we opened, we have received 57,000 visitors and 394 Sussex school visits, sharing with them fascinating details about how the Rampion Wind Farm was constructed and how it creates enough clean green energy to power almost 409,000 homes,” said Katie Scanlan, Rampion Visitor Centre Manager.   

“We want to encourage people living in Sussex to make use of this fantastic free resource and bring their friends and family to enjoy a great attraction which includes displays, interactive models and even a virtual visit to the wind farm.”

As part of its voluntary commitment to the local community when it was built, Rampion Offshore Wind Farm created the Visitor Centre as part of a £4 million community fund for the Sussex community over ten years.

“As winter approaches, we’re keen to remind people of the Visitor Centre, and urge everyone to come and make use of this facility. Rain or shine, we are open every day except Mondays all year round,” Katie continued.

The Rampion Offshore Wind Farm supplies enough green energy to power the equivalent of almost 409,000 homes - around half the homes in Sussex - and reduces CO2 emissions by up to 600,000 tonnes a year.

Installation of the 116 turbines was completed in September 2018 when Rampion became the first offshore wind farm off the UK’s south coast.
