Sussex Cricket Foundation And Brighton Food Partnerships Join Forces For Local Families

Sussex Cricket Foundation and Brighton & Hove Food Partnership’s ‘In the Bag’ initiative will once again see 1200 meal kits delivered to families in need over the coming weeks.

Having initially worked together in 2020 to deliver food and meal kits to families in the summer holidays, the two organisations continued the fundraising and donations in 2021 and have done the same once again this year.

The first bags were delivered to a number of food banks in the local area last week, with the next deliveries set to be distributed throughout the February half-term, followed by two more deliveries in March.

Each kit contained recipes and ready-weighed out ingredients for ease, with the Food Partnership choosing recipes that were simple to make, known to work and provide options for children’s involvement.

Speaking at a Cost-of-Living Summit organised by Brighton & Hove Council yesterday, Vic Borrill Director Brighton & Hove Food Partnership, thanked the Foundation for their support:

“Thank you to the Sussex Cricket Foundation for funding us to distribute 1200 In The Bag recipe kits to families experiencing poverty.

“The bags will go out between January and Easter packed by our team of volunteers.

“As well as providing healthy balanced ingredients, the bags give families the opportunity to cook together, teaching children and young people life skills and sharing the experience and love of cooking and eating together.”

At least 5,159 people are supported weekly through community emergency food providers, of which 28 % are children and young people under 18, therefore these community initiatives are more important than ever.

Gary Wallis-Tayler, Community Cricket Director for the Sussex Cricket Foundation, added:

“We are delighted to be able to continue supporting our In the Bag initiative in partnership with the Brighton & Hove Food Partnership.

“With no sign of the cost-of-living crisis easing and food costs continuing to rise, it’s important for us at Sussex Cricket to continue supporting our communities in time of need.”
