Teenager Arrested On Hove Lawns As Students Celebrate Year End

A 17-year-old boy from Brighton has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.

It happened yesterday evening (Thursday, June 22) on Hove lawns after a large crowd of young people, many of them Year 11 students, gathered on Hove Lawns to celebrate the end of the school year.

The gathering was monitored by officers to ensure public safety and a dispersal order was put in place after a report of an assault and anti-social behaviour.

The 17-year-old remains in custody at this time.

Sussex Police sent a letter, via Brighton & Hove schools today, to respectfully ask parents to make sure they know where their children are planning to go and to make sure their children are safe and not involved in mass gatherings.

The letter ends:

"Please consider encouraging your children to meet in places where there are not mass gatherings or if they find themselves in a place where things are deteriorating, to leave for a place of safety".
