A body found on the tracks at West Worthing Station on Tuesday (Feb 1) has been confirmed as that of a train driver.
It's believed he was hit by a passing train.
Angie Doll, Managing Director of Southern Railway, said:
“We are devastated to confirm that one of our train drivers was pronounced dead at West Worthing station on 1 February.
“At this unimaginably difficult time, I offer my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. Everyone in our railway family is heartbroken by the loss of one of our own.”
Earlier the same evening, Southern Rail had tweeted to say there was believed to be a trespasser on the tracks:

As a safety precaution, the electricity that powers the line has been switched off.
ℹ️ Services will be disrupted in either direction, so please allow extra time for travel.
Southern Rail is working with the British Transport Police to establish exactly what circumstances led to the tragedy.
