A serious fire is underway at Staverton Nursery on the A22 Eastbourne Road at Halland (7.30am, April 12).
East Sussex Fire & Rescue are asking people to please avoid the area and keep doors and windows closed.
At 8.30am this morning (April 12) the fire service tweeted an update:
"Crews are working hard and making steady progress. The road is closed. There continues to be smoke in the area. We expect to be on scene for several hours. Please continue to avoid the area."
Update 9.37am:
"Crews are continuing to work hard on Eastbourne Road at Halland. We are scaling down to 6 fire engines and an aerial ladder platform. The road remains closed. Please continue to avoid the area and please keep doors and windows closed due to smoke."
Update at 12.54pm:
"The incident has been scaled down to two fire engines. There is smoke in the air so please keep windows and doors closed. The A22 is now open in both directions but please use alternative routes where possible. Please be reminded the garden centre is currently closed."
