Volunteers Welcome As Council Cleans Up Brighton City Centre

The Clock Tower, Brighton City Centre

Councillors are leading a ‘City Centre Big Clean’ on Saturday, November 25 and urging residents to join in.

The council says that councillors will be removing stickers, cleaning graffiti tagging and repainting bins in the city centre as part of its ‘Big Clean’ event series.

Councillors will be focussing on the area around Brighton Train Station and Queens Road, West Street, New Road, Jubilee Street and St James Street.

By cleaning up the city, the council says it’s creating a more positive and attractive environment for residents, businesses and visitors.

Councillors will be supported by officers from the council’s Cityclean team who will be providing equipment for the day and continuing with their usual litter picking, jet washing and graffiti cleaning tasks.

The council says it is asking Tidy Up Team volunteers to get involved and is reaching out to local businesses and community groups to support its City Centre Big Clean event too.

Councillor Tim Rowkins, Chair of the City Environment, South Downs and The Sea Committee, said:

“We want to build on the success of our Big Clean Up weekend and show residents and businesses that us councillors intend to keep doing our bit.

“We’re looking forward to bringing everyone together to focus on the city centre this time around.

“Our street operatives do a fantastic job looking after the city centre day-to-day, and we’ll be helping out by doing a blitz in these high footfall areas.

“It’s important to us to that residents are proud of the city they live and work in and visitors have a good first impression when they step off the train.

“We would, of course, love to welcome any residents, businesses and community groups that feel like lending a hand.”
