Firefighters in Midhurst were mobilised to a chimney fire at an address in Heathfield Close last night (Wednesday).
Crews were called to Heathfield Close at 7.50pm, and used a range of chimney equipment to extinguish the flames, including a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots.
The incident has prompted a warning for owners of fires and log burners to make sure that they are kept swept.
A West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said:
"Our advice for anyone who has a log burner or who has open fires is to always have your chimney swept regularly to prevent a chimney fire."
Other safety precautions recommended by WSFRS include:
- Use fire or spark guards.
- Always extinguish the fire before going to bed or leaving the house.
- Never block air bricks, vents or flues.
- Always fit a carbon monoxide detector.
- Always fit a smoke alarm - it could save your life!"
